PEACE: Peers Encouraging A Caring Environment

P.E.A.C.E is a Teen Support Group offered by Better Days Ahead Family Support Network A service of The Mental Health Association of Rochester.

What is P.E.A.C.E.?
Peace is a peer run support group for teens who are learning to live with mental illness in their immediate environment. We encourage open and honest sharing. By sharing our thoughts, emotions, and dreams, we can work together to promote healing and courage among our peers.

Who may join us?
Anyone between the ages of 13 and 18 with a mental health diagnosis, and currently in therapy may join us. Please call 325-3145 ext. 133 to verify eligibility.

You need not belong to any organizations, and there are no fees or dues. This support group is free to all who need it. There is never any surveillance of any kind, and all information shared will be kept confidential (unless the shared information discloses a plan to harm self or others).

The PEACE meetings will run as follows:
We will hold a regular support group meeting, where everyone is encouraged to share openly about any issue that is affecting them. All of the peers at the meetings are free to share their experiences with similar problems, and to offer hope and encouragement by sharing the solutions to problems that worked for them.

The fourth Monday of each month is activity time. The group will choose from and participate in an activity that focuses on improving mental wellness and recovery.

A light dinner will be served at every meeting. Please let us know if there are food allergies or special dietary needs we should be aware of, so that we can make necessary menu adjustments!

At every PEACE group meeting there are 2 facilitators present. Their role is to oversee the meetings and to make sure everyone is safe. The facilitators are not therapists and do not offer advice.

“It is possible to be standing on one side of a door and perceive the world as a dark and lonely place, while on the other side of that very same door are countless people just waiting to lend support and cheer you on. All that is required is that you turn the knob.”
